I hope you all had a wonderful Valentine’s day last week!
We had a fun day at our house… Deklan wrote out all of his own Valentines for his kindergarten classmates, and he wore his team Canada jersey for Red & White day at school – he was thrilled to get to show it off to his teacher and his class. He’s so patriotic already – I’m such a proud Mummy.
I got to spend my afternoon with a beautiful newborn baby boy. He was 5 days old, and had the most perfect skin I’ve ever seen on a wee babe. Over the last week (and for the next week or so, too) I’ve been working on his images in my down time. His parents have seen a quick sneak peek, but they prefer that his portraits aren’t shared on social media, so I’m afraid you’re out of luck. You’ll have to use your imagination – I know you can do it! :)
After our session was done, I picked Dek up from school and we went grocery shopping for dinner ingredients… I made Mister a special Valentine’s dinner: Buffalo Chicken Poutine. YUMMO (although not at all photogenic)!
For today’s favorite though, here’s an image of my Valentine’s gift from Mister. He knows me so well… a giant mason jar/vase with tulips! *sigh*
I’d be hard pressed to tell you my single favorite portrait of each of the Duders, but these are in my top 10. They currently hang, framed in our bathroom. These images are taken about a year apart, in the bathtub in our first house.
I can’t get over how different both of these boys are… but they’re both all eyes! Huge and expressive, with gorgeous long, dark lashes: Dek’s are a light hazel, and E’s are deep brown. I could stare into them for hours – but that would be a little crazy and the Duders wouldn’t hesitate to tell me so.
Are you able to pinpoint your favorite image of your kiddos?
You might recognize these new parents from their maternity portraits.
The arrival of their Little Root was eagerly anticipated, not just by them and their loved ones, but by me too! I couldn’t wait to meet the little bundle!
He arrived on Mother’s Day of 2013. What a sweet treat for his Mama. Not many people can say that they received the gift of Motherhood on their very first Mother’s Day!
I met them at their home about a week later to capture these memories for them. We focused mainly on portraits of the new addition, but we also included some of the new family, dog-brother and all. Many parents don’t like to be included in their newborn baby’s portraits, and that’s just fine with me (I was the same way with my newborn Duders), but we created some great portraits of this family together – including my favorite face of 2013!
When I fall in love with something, I tend to fall hard and fast. That’s pretty much EXACTLY how it went down when a friend/co-worker introduced me to David’s Tea last year. I’m now 100% obsessed. My tea stash has taken over my Mister’s coffee cupboard, and I’ve even turned my littlest Duder into a David’s fanatic!
My favorite flavors of last year were Toasted Marshmallow and Strawberry Shortcake. Really though, don’t get me started about the Strawberry Shortcake… seriously TO DIE FOR. I wish they’d bring it back!!
This year, my favorites are:
Red Velvet Cake (flavored black tea),
David’s Organic Breakfast (straight black tea)
Lime Gelato (sencha green tea)
and Easton’s favorite is:
Bear Trap (herbal)
My favorite iced tea is La La Lemon Organic (with a little sweetener, and some added lemon juice).
And if you’re feeling under the weather, you can’t get any non-medicinal drink better than Cold 911. I suggest it to everyone I know who comes down with a cold.
I usually shop at the David’s Tea at Uptown. I HIGHLY recommend it. The staff is always friendly, helpful, and uber knowledgeable. You can buy your loose-leaf tea to bring home and brew yourself, or buy yourself a hot cup of tea or a latte, or an iced tea or tea pop, right there in store.
Are you a coffee/tea addict? What’s your favorite?
At work yesterday afternoon, a friend and I got to talking about books. Favorites came up in conversation, and I was inspired to photograph my favorite book for today’s blog post!
I don’t know what it is about this book that I love so much. It seems to be the kind of story that you either love, or you hate. I’ll be honest and say that the reason I was drawn to read the book in the first place, is because it was banned in so many schools in the United States. I needed to know what all the fuss was about.
I’ve read The Catcher in the Rye countless times. Every time, I’m reminded just how much I love it. There’s something about its painful awkwardness that keeps me coming back. I know that it turns some people off, but I guess it makes me feel better about myself and my own awkwardness.
What’s your favorite book?
I can’t believe I’m going to say this, but my favorite face of 2013 wasn’t one of my Duders. Or my niece. Or even anyone in my family!
My favorite face of 2013 was baby Carter.
His Mama knew she wanted to try to make this portrait right from the start, and the result is just what we were hoping for!
We waited until the end of his session, when he was good and sleepy. We placed him in his Daddy’s hands, then waited patiently for that content expression. It’s such an honest representation of love and trust.
This portrait was featured on Carter’s birth announcement, enlarged & printed for display in the family home, and used in mini-album brag books.
I personally love this so much that it is the feature image on the landing page for my website, and the header on my Facebook page (link below if you’re interested).Really, for me, it doesn’t get any better than sleepy newborn faces.
I’m all done having babies of my own, but I love that my job allows me to snuggle and ogle over beautiful babies for the foreseeable future.

I’ve loved Tiffany’s for as long as I can remember. And Breakfast at Tiffany’s has been in my Top 5 favorite movies for as long as I can remember too.
When I went to NYC in 2002, we visited the 5th Avenue Tiffany & Co. store at least three separate times. Without a doubt, my “happy” place.
This necklace was purchased then and there, and gifted to me by my Dad and Judy when they got married. It’s been one of my favorite pieces of jewelry for over a decade now.
I have yet to go back to the NY store, but I’ve visited each of the Tiffany & Co stores in Las Vegas more times than I can count. It makes me smile to just look around at all the pretty things.
With all this time off work over the past few weeks, I’ve been able to indulge in one of my favorite things: Cupcake Sauvignon Blanc! Really dry white wine is my favorite – and this one in particular, really hits the spot! As a matter of fact, it’s after 5pm now, and I have to go back to work in just a few short days, so I think it’s time to pour myself a glass!
It’s Friday Favorites time. Can you guess what else I love? I love antique cameras!
For as long as I can remember, even as a child, there were cameras on display in my house. My Daddy is a photographer too, and he’s always had antique cameras around.
When Mister and I moved into our current home, we put up two large display shelves on either side of the fireplace in the living room. It’s the perfect spot to display some of my favorite decorations!
This Kodak Duaflex is the first of more than a few antique cameras that I’ll likely feature here from time to time.
How awesome is this camera. Don’tcha just wanna PIN it? Don’tcha!?

I mentioned to the boys at dinnertime that I needed to choose a favorite thing to post on the blog today. Deklan suggested that my favorite thing was him (more specifically, CUDDLES with him), and that I should post his photo. Consider it done little Tadpole!
These portraits (from a quick impromptu mini-session a few months ago) contain quite a few of my favorite things: my oldest Duder, his freckles, his hazel eyes, his goofy smile, the colour red, and amazing window light in our living room.
What’s your favorite thing?
