PhotoLife magazine

I’ve been reading PhotoLife magazine since about 2008, and I’ve been a subscriber since about 2009.

Last summer, I decided that it was time to stop just reading, and to start also entering some of the contests that they promote in every issue.  My favorite one, is called ” Showtime”. It’s a different theme every issue, and when I saw the upcoming Flowers theme, I chose a few favorites, and submitted them to the magazine.

Much to my happy surprise and delight, one of my photos (the bridal bouquet from Torie & Mike’s wedding) was chosen to be published in the April/May 2012 issue.

Now you’ll have to please excuse me while I go and pat myself on my back ;)

iheartfaces – By the Book

This weeks iheartfaces challenge states that we need to use a book as some kind of a prop, but that a face still needs to be clearly showing in our photo.
No problemo!
While this isn’t a new portrait, it’s one of my all-time favorites – and it fits within the rules easily.

This is one of Easton’s first portraits. If I were to give it a title, it’d be called “Namesakes“.

Jones Soda

A few months ago, after designing some “My Jones” soda bottles for my brother and future sister-in-law, I thought it might be fun to add some of my photos to the Jones Soda gallery, in hopes of maybe being lucky enough to have a label printed that featured my work.
I didn’t have high hopes, as the Jones gallery currently holds over 1,270,000 images.  But, I went for it anyways.  I uploaded about a dozen images, and tried not to think about it…. until I got an e-mail, saying that one of my images had been chosen as a “staff pick”.  The website says that a staff pick is the first step towards being chosen for an actual label. I was thrilled! So you can imagine my excitement when in the next little while, I received 4 more staff picks!!

Fast Forward to yesterday. At least a few months after having made my submissions.  I got an e-mail saying that one of my photos had been chosen for a label run!! And then I got another email, and another, and ANOTHER!!
How is it possible that not one, but FOUR of my images are all being printed in the latest label run!? I’m BEYOND excited about this news.  (And for those of you wondering, there were 72 images chosen for this run)

So, in order to take my bragging just a little bit further, here are the four images that were chosen:


Keep an eye on those store shelves in the coming weeks/months (I’m not exactly sure how long it even takes for these new bottles to hit the stores).  Clockwise, from the top left, it’ll be Easton’s 1st birthday on Cream Soda (my favorite!), Deklan’s Mexican wrestling mask on Root Beer, My Hipster boys on Cream Soda, and Deklan’s cookie face on Blue Bubble Gum.

I know I’ll be scouring everywhere I can to make sure that I’m able to get my hands on at least a bottle of each!

iheartfaces – Water

Here in Victoria, we’ve been waiting (rather impatiently) for summer.  And this weekend, it finally arrived!  My boys could not have been happier to be outside, playing in the yard.

Perfect timing for this weeks iheartfaces “Water” theme… What could be more fun than a slip & slide!?

iheartfaces – Props

I’ve been on a bit of a blogging hiatus.
Life has been busy, and as always, my family takes priority.
Between wedding season, my last few weeks at home with my boys before returning to my day-job, my baby boy’s first birthday, and summer in general, there just never seems to be enough hours in the day.
That being said… I’m ready to jump back into blogging just in time for this weeks iheartfaces contest.

The theme this week is “Props”.  While my props might not be the most traditional, I think they have to count.
I wasn’t a very strong photographer when my Tadpole turned one, so I knew that I really wanted to knock it out of the park with the Worm’s 1st birthday portrait.
We didn’t have a big party, but we had family over for Ooh La La “Cookie Monster” cupcakes (and they were sooooo good!).  My Worm made such a mess – exactly the opposite to his big brother on his 1st birthday.

I couldn’t have been much happier with this portrait… the birthday boy, cupcake mess, balloons, a birthday hat… and a SMIRK!!

iheartfaces – Let’s Hear it for the Boys!

Let’s Hear it for the Boys!!  Being the lucky Mummy to two adorable boys, this weeks theme holds a special place in my heart.  But I already post SO MANY photos of my own kids, that I decided I should enter a different Duder this week instead.

I met with this little man a few weeks ago, to celebrate his upcoming FIRST birthday (which just happens to be TOMORROW)!! I had a few favorites from his session, but this one just seemed so “boy” to me.  Who needs to smell flowers when you can taste them instead?

iheartfaces – People’s Choice!

This week at iheartfaces, we’re entering our favorite face, photographed this month.
My favorite May face was a bit tough to narrow down.  We’ve had a busy month here, with a move and plenty of unpacking/organizing to do, but we have a fantastic new yard for the boys to play in.  On one of our sunniest days, I took the Duders outside & my camera tagged along.  I got a portrait of them together that I adore, but instead of posting that one today (look for it tomorrow, if you’re interested), I decided to use one of the outtakes.

*SIGH* I love my boys :)

iheartfaces – Yellow

This image goes back a few months… the little Dude hiding in that belly is already six months old!
I wasn’t sure what I’d post for this weeks iheartfaces contest, but as I was skimming my sessions from the past year, the colour of the leaves just leapt right off the screen at me, and I knew this was it.

iheartfaces – iheartTULIPS!

No faces this week… it’s a floral photo challenge instead.

What better way to add some sunshine to this gloomy May day, than with some TULIPS! My favorite :)
Our new house doesn’t have much in the way of tulips, but it sure will next year! In any case, I made sure to get some photos of the tulips at our old house so that I wouldn’t have to deal with withdrawl.

PS – Hoping to get back into the swing of blogging now that we’ve moved in.  It’ll take ages to get settled, I’m sure, but at least we’re IN.

iheartfaces – Pets

We’re not yet prepared to add a pet to our little Dey family, but I knew exactly which pet I wanted to enter in this weeks contest!  Meet (or become reacquainted with) Max.  He belongs to the new Mr. & Mrs. Root!  We met at their engagement session at IslandView beach, and that’s where/when I took this photo.
